Bokeh redefined – creative control of spherical aberration
With the PORTRAIT HELIAR 75 mm F1.8 we present an extraordinary, fast portrait lens for the full format – exclusively for Canon RF mount. It is a Voigtländer full-frame interchangeable lens that is equipped with a mechanism for targeted control of spherical aberration and thus opens up completely new creative possibilities in image composition.
A lens for expressive portrait photography
The development focused on the interplay between spherical aberration and bokeh. A specially developed control ring can be used to specifically set under- and over-correction – and thus create completely different bokeh characteristics:
- Undercorrection: Soft focus with gentle halos, dreamlike creamy background bokeh
- Overcorrection: Clearly defined focus point with striking, bubble-like bokeh
What has long been considered a flaw in classic optics is deliberately used here as a means of creative expression. The PORTRAIT HELIAR was designed from the ground up to make creative use of these properties.
Main Features:
- Creatively controllable bokeh characteristics via control ring
- Specially developed for Canon RF mount
- Full format coverage
- High-quality, durable full metal housing
- Electronic contacts for modern camera functions
- Precise manual focusing
Classic design, modern innovation
Despite its compact Heliar design with 6 lenses in 3 groups, the lens achieves an impressive speed of F1.8. Changes in spherical aberration are usually accompanied by focus shifts – Voigtländer counters this effect with a sophisticated mechanism that adjusts the lens distance in sync with the position of the control ring and keeps the focus position stable.
A discreet, tactile marking on the control ring makes it possible to feel the set correction range – ideal for intuitive working.
Precision you can feel
The lens is made entirely of metal and impresses with the highest mechanical quality. The high-precision metal helicoid is specially greased and ensures silky smooth, even focus movement – even at open aperture and minimal depth of field.
Seamless integration into modern camera systems
Electronic contacts enable the transfer of Exif data as well as support for camera-internal functions such as focus magnification and image stabilization (with compatible cameras). The mechanical aperture control is carried out in the classic manner via an aperture ring directly on the lens, 9 aperture blades ensure a particularly harmonious and aesthetic display of blur circles.
