The Voigtländer 40mm F2.0 SEPTON Aspherical is a standard lens that combines a compact design with high image quality for full-frame cameras with a Nikon Z-mount.
SEPTON was the name given to standard lenses developed for the Bessamatic and Ultramatic SLR cameras with central shutters, which were marketed in the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s as a new photographic platform intended to replace rangefinder cameras.
SEPTON refers to a lens whose optical performance was further enhanced by adding a lens element to the six-element design of the ULTRON—which debuted in 1950 for rangefinder cameras. It is considered one of Voigtländer’s legendary lenses.
The SEPTON 40mm F2 Aspherical for Nikon Z-mount is a pancake-style standard lens whose compact design is ideally suited for mirrorless cameras.
Optimized for Nikon Z-mount full-frame sensors, they achieve an aperture of f/2 while retaining the advantages of the compact Orthometar design. This is achieved by adding an aspherical lens to the six-element Orthometar design. The Orthometar design is characterized by a short optical length and extremely low distortion.
With a total length of just 32 mm, this lens is particularly easy to carry and always within reach. Its 40-mm angle of view, which can also be used as a mild wide angle, makes it the ideal everyday lens. The minimum focusing distance of 0.3 m is excellent for tabletop and close-up shots.
It comes with a dome-shaped, screw-on metal lens hood that preserves the lens’s compact design.
SEPTON 40mm f/2 Aspherical Z-Mount
The Z Mount version is also equipped with electronic contacts. When used with a camera body that supports electronic communication and the latest firmware*¹, it supports EXIF information, in-camera image stabilization (3-axis), and three types of focus assist features:
Focus assistance via color change of the focus frame
Focus assistance via the peaking function
Focus assistance via the magnification button
With the 40mm F2.0 SEPTON Aspherical E-Mount and Z-Mount lenses, Voigtländer is introducing two lenses that expand the versatility of modern cameras. They combine classic manual operation with the latest technology, enabling both ambitious amateur photographers and professionals to achieve impressive results.
